Check you out! You’re visiting my blog! Huzzah!
What is Spirit Mojo?
Spirit Mojo is a blog to help your spirituality deepen and your heart brighten, through the Wisdom Teachings of Adi Da Samraj (and all sorts of other cool stuff).
Why is Spirit Mojo?
Like a kabillion other people these days, I believe that the only real way to heal this planet is through a turnabout in consciousness, an awakening of the Heart in a critical mass of people. May this blog contribute toward that great shift by helping and supporting your spiritual process.
Adi Da’s created His Wisdom-Teaching to guide and instruct His formal devotees, but He also offers it as a gift to anyone who cares to make use of it—including people involved in other Ways and Traditions.
To benefit from Spirit Mojo, you definitely do not need to know who Adi Da Samraj is or anything about Him or the Way He offers, but you can if you want to, by clicking here, and reading my extremely unofficial Introduction to Adi Da Samraj and the Way of Adidam.
Two beliefs woven throughout this blog
Two fundamental assumptions of mine inform just about everything I write on this blog.
1) Most people who are “into Spirituality” use it—unconsciously—as a “spiritual bypass”—a strategy to avoid, anesthetize, suppress, and dissociate from emotional pain. Genuine Spirituality, however, cannot blossom unless those emotions are made conscious and integrated. This is part of what Adi Da means when He says, “You must become human before you can become Spiritual.” (In fact, I was orginally going to call this blog, “First Become Human.”)
2) Because of the monstrosity of pop, consumer spirituality, very few people have any idea of the true demands of real spiritual life, nor do they imagine the magnitude of its true rewards. The revolution in consciousness required to heal and transform our planet requires (according to me) that significant numbers of people find these things out: People need to begin rediscovering the true, rigorous, fiery odyssey of authentic Spiritual life.
For that reason, I try to take (and plan to take) every opportunity to direct people to the biographies and autobiographies of great Awakened Beings…of course Adi Da Samraj, because He is my Guru, but also Sri Shankara, Ramana Maharshi, Shirdi Sai Baba, Hui Neng, Rumi, Anandamaya Ma, Meister Eckhart, Ramakrishna, Huang Po, Lin Chi (Rinzai), St. John of the Cross, Teresa of Avila, Hildegaard of Bingen, Hafiz, Swami Vivekananda, Swami Nityananda, Swami Muktananda, and a great many more.
About post frequency
As of today, I plan to post every week or two.
About saying stuff to me
If you want to reach me, my email is: email@example.com. This is from when I was using a pen name. I’ll have to fix this soon…
About the open hand logo in the header
Since His first public talk in 1972, Adi Da Samraj used the metaphor of the closed fist to represent the ego, describing the ego as the primal contraction into (the illusion of) separateness and unlove (or the “self”-contraction). Conversely, the open hand signifies the radiant disposition – the flowering of the being to the infinity of the Divine Conscious Light.
“…all of My Instruction is based on a single fundamental understanding: There is either the closed fist or the open hand, either “self”-contraction or no-contraction. All of My Instruction is based on that fundamental “self”-understanding.”
This blog is the creation of one devotee—aka me—and a really immature one at that. The teachings of Adi Da that you’re seeing here are selected by, and then, regrettably, filtered by one dude’s wildly subjective perspective. You have been warned.
I offer my eternal gratitude to my radiant Guru, Adi Da Samraj, who drags me, again and again, kicking and screaming, into the ocean of Love. I offer this blog at His Feet.
I also want to thank Maria Popova for her exquisite website Brainpickings.org. Popova’s courage, originality, and sheer generosity of spirit, evident in the loving care she puts into her website, is a gift to the world and was a huge inspiration for me to finally get off my ass and make this website.
Lastly, the open hand logo was created by a brilliant and astonishing artist of unique vision named Brooklynd Turner. Check her work out here.
